The Lino 330 has a good performance reputation. However, please take note of the following when purchasing used imagesetters:
1. Performance will also depend a lot on the rip software. For example, if you purchase the Lino with an old RIP 50, you will get very poor performance. The best scenario is to purchase a new rip to drive a used imagesetter. You will get speed, reliability and the ability to handle new file formats like pdf.
2. The Lino 330 has a film width of only 12 inches. If you are to output a 9 x 12 publication; you will have to do it page by page. I suggest you consider an imagesetter with, at least, 14 inches film width. You will be able to output the 9 x 12 job in spreads, instead of pages. The Agfa Accuset, for example, is 14 inches and just as reliable as the Lino 330.
3. Service support and spare parts availability are important factors in purchasing a used imagesetter. I know some Lino users who are serviced by technicians from Hongkong and Malaysia; because there are no more reliable freelance technicians here. The only dealer of used Linotype with after-sales support is Tri-Class Corp. For used Agfa and Scitex, there is B & W Commercial.
With regards to price, a refurbished unit (12 to 14 inch capstan) with processor and new rip would probably cost between P650,000 to 800,000.
