Have anyone heard about ink saving or ink optimizer?

It can be used to any printer driven by RIP and icc compliant.
it can be inkjet, toner base or in offset.

If the image has more blacks or gray, the more inks is save.
In principle, it is about gcr and UCR or UCA. The difference is the algorithm on saturated colors. it stay saturated.

To those who have a digital presses, you get the most benifit since black toner is cheaper than the colors, colors is more stable because of black generation, for those who are in click charge, no benifit except consistency in colors.

Volume of color ink savings is in between 15% to 30%
Expensive CMY ink is replaced by a less expensive K ink
Sharper images due to increased black components
Better and more stable grey balance - digital press-toner base
Faster ink drying time with less ink offset
Reduced file size Faster press makeready with less waste

I remember then that I used to play with it using Photoshop's maximum black generation and GCR. Lots of ink optimizers are now available in the market. Ink saving or ink optimizer really works. But implementation is not as simple as advertised but it is worth it. Knowledge in color management is a must.
